Disabled Aircraft Causes Temporary CEKA Runway Closure

The Virgin Islands Port Authority alerts the public that the Cyril E. King Airport’s runway is temporarily closed as of 9:30 am. A private aircraft with the tail number N44GF developed a flat tire and is now disabled on the runway. VIPA Territorial Airport Manager Jerome Sheridan reported that emergency response crews are presently working to tow the aircraft. After the aircraft is removed, the runway must be inspected before it can reopen. Sheridan estimates that the runway should reopen by 1 p.m. or sooner.

Flight delays to and from St. Thomas are anticipated due to the runway closure. VIPA advises travelers to call their airlines directly for flight information. Updates will be posted on VIPA’s website and social media sites.
