CEKA Runway Temporarily Closed for Emergency Repair

Flights to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (STT) are being diverted to San Juan, Puerto Rico, while the Virgin Islands Port Authority makes emergency repairs to the runway at the Cyril E. King Airport. VIPA Executive Director Carlton Dowe said that airport officials were recently notified of a small portion of pavement failure near the touchdown area on the runway and immediately closed for repairs.

Dowe said that the temporary runway closure would delay departing and arriving flights. “We apologize for the inconvenience, but this repair is necessary to ensure the safety of the travelling public and our airport users,” he said. The CEKA runway is expected to reopen by 4:00 p.m., and VIPA will issue a notice when normal operations resume.
